We’ve all
done something regrettable in our youth; some of us have done more regrettable
things than others. I remember having to
go to the office while the principal called my parents to tell them that I
showed my Wonder Woman Underoos to all the boys on the playground of our
Christian school. Sometimes these
regrettable moments leave us as adults laughing out of self-preservation and
embarrassment.
As a child,
M.O.M. was no exception. There was much
head hanging as the story was relayed how she once peed in a cup and carried it
to the neighbor kids’ house telling them it was chicken soup. Talk about shock and awe! Once again, when asked what happened we were
told “I don’t know. I didn’t stick around.”
One can only hope the kids didn’t like chicken soup.
This pattern
of Attack and Retreat poses a problem with the Experiments in Devious Conducts
of Humor as it leaves a lack of results and therefore nullifies the
experiment. Though sometimes the
reaction of the subject matter is irrelevant, in other cases, it is the most
important component.
